removing the views on board topics

I believe it would be a good idea to take away the views colomn on board topics. This is for the simple reason that no matter what, if your page is refreshed while on a board, it will always show another view. If you post to the topic, another view is added. I personally find this useless, and I think something like original date of post should be available instead.
thanks,

I agree with you about the original date of topic, but see no reason to get rid of the views. This is often a good sign as to how many people are reading the topic, and can be helpful in determining the popularity of a topic.

I agree partly. Date created is a good thing and i wouldn't say remove the views but make some corrections on it.
For example views shouldn't count if the person created the topick went back to read it or reply to something. Also it would be good if it could be only one view per person only. Because it's true if somebody for example went to read a topick and recieved a quicknote and replied before started reading it we automatically have another two views and maybe more.
Also maybe views shouldn't count when people read topicks without logging in.
These are just suggestions. It might be difficult to programme one view per person.
Thanks

I agree with Nikos. I like the idea of original date. And like Nikos and others said, another view is added even if the person who made the post goes back to read responses. So if it could be updated in some way to show how many views without registering one every time the original poster went back or other people went back more than once, that would be cool.

I don't know, but if I understand what you are saying, it sounds like a programming nightmare to me. But, if not, sounds great.

I also agree nicos's idea.

get rid of the views.

and anyway, who's interested how many views it has if they can't even see who has read it?

as for date created, if you look below each individual post, it tells you the date and time it was posted

the point to that, gatsrey, is that they would like to see the date before they look at the board.

Yeah, but isn't it going to be a bit hard for the admin to code it so that the script can tell the difference between when someone looks at it from a qn or if they come to it from someware else? I mean to say, hows the code going to tell if they have just loded it from sending a qn or if they have gone from another page? BEN.

B3n, that's actually pretty simple, the way things are implemented.

I say that we keep the views the way they are. and like someone said in an earlier post that the date is on the bord already.

Post 14 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Monday, 06-Nov-2006 20:51:10

I think people don't read carefully. Yes there are the dates on the board already. Nobody said there isn't. What others suggested is the date created to be in the topicks with new posts list so people know what date a topick was created without having to click the topick first.

OK. Couple of things slightly, but not totally related to this. Changed most popular topics to only show topics with at lesat one post in last 7 days. Also added a topics with most posts option. Oh, and I redid the preview function. I'll write about that in the news board.

oh ya, and a bit more related, views won't count if you just sent a quicknote now.
